Seriously they had a good time, and were sorry to go back to Ontario at 4pm on Monday afternoon. Only a couple more weeks..... and Landon is home for good. The adventure is almost over.

Who said anything about baseball withdrawal?

With Landon's baseball being over, we have had quite an adjustment. Things looked brighter tonight though - another generation is starting up, and we couldn't be prouder. Check out Camryn - first time out on the field, and you would have thought she was "Queen" of T-ball.

  • Memorial Day at Home

Landon and Mitch are headed home. At 9:30 pm they are in Rupert - They'll probably get here about midnight. We are looking forward to the visit. Landon said to warm up the spaghetti we had for dinner, cause' they'll be hungry !!

    No call THIS week....

Landon had a great weekend at home, and is planning on coming home over Memorial Day also. We had expected receiving his call this Wednesday, but found out Sunday, that it hadn't been sent in yet !?!? Hopefully it was sent in today, so at the earliest, we are looking at June 6th. We will hold it until he gets home to open it all together, that is unless I can find a way to "steam" it open, j/k Landon !!

    Thanks Mitch !!

    What is character?

Character is the combination of qualities that distinguish you as an individual. The mixture of thoughts, words and actions you express determine who you are.

Being a person of character means living by a set of standards to do what is right, rather than what is easy.

One of the benefits of being a person of character is that other people will take notice and often, will follow your example.

    For Roger and Landon

I can’t fully capture what it’s really like
There’s just a few words I can say
Green grass, smooth field, a sunny day
Break out the ball, son. It’s time to play

It’s really just the same, even without all the fame,
watchin' my kid play sandlot games
So, play the game. Son, play the game
It don't change. Play the game

You got a bat. I take the mound
I wanna hear that lovely sound
I wanna see my son behind the plate
Pop it up, chase it down
    Turn around, turn around,
back to the wall, try to chase it on down

    Final TVCC Record

    Season 28-26
    League 14-14

    The Fat Lady Has Sung........

The Chukars lost a heartbreaker (first game) to Spokane, thus ending their playoff hopes, and their season. Jon Keller, pitched a "gutsy" game with a broken toe, and we were tied 2-2 going into the 6th inning when he was replaced by Hobgood. The Sasquatch picked up another 3 runs, winning the game 5 to 2. The second game was anti-climactic, but the great thing about it was getting all the freshmen in the game for one last go. The boys headed home on the bus (wearing their uniforms/no shower). It will be a LOOOOONNNGG 7-8 hours of travel.

    Do or Die......

The Chukars must sweep Spokane at Spokane on Saturday in order to be able to advance to the playoffs next week. It will be a tough go, but the team has played well on the road (remember CBC and Wenatchee last month?). They will be hard fought games, as the Sasquatches will want revenge from the last time we played. We will be there to cheer TVCC on. Roger and Gwen will drive to Boise tomorrow afternoon, and then fly out to Spokane at 9:30 pm. The boys will probably leave around noon tomorrow for the bus ride up. We are staying with the Phillips once again, and hopefully we'll be able to cook some of the boys breakfast early Saturday morning before the game. GO CHUKARS !!

    Chukars split with CBC

It was good to see Landon again yesterday, and to see the Chukars win against CBC, final score of first game 6-0. Pitcher, Hobgood was only 4 singles away from a perfect game. We left for home, during the second game, when the Chuks were down 0-5......final score ended up 4-8. We are surely missing Jon Keller on the pitching rotation. We still stand in 5th place, but Walla Walla and Big Bend have not reported yesterday's scores yet (7am-Thurs).

    Practice was GREAT !

Landon called tonight and said that yesterday was the BEST practice the team has ever had, and today's was just as good. It was a very HARD practice, but everyone had their attitudes in the right place, including the coaches. They are all optimistic about the games tomorrow and Saturday. I just got an email from Amy Phillips (Spokane, WA), Landon's roommate's mom. She made this comment, which I hadn't really thought about before.. "It's pretty wild that 5 teams can play 24 games, and only be separated by 2 games. I wonder what the odds of that happening are? Oh well, their fate should rest in their hands". Rog and I are heading up tomorrow to catch the double header. Keep your fingers crossed XX.

    The Beauty of Baseball

"In fact, the real beauty of baseball is that, if you know the game, it is like the placid duck paddling furiously under water — all sorts of things are happening or may be happening or could possibly happen soon, you think. Then, when something does happen it is that much more delicious. That, as much as the periodic action, is what makes baseball such a marvelous sport." - Frank Deford in Sports Illustrated (October 2000)

    Great Weekend at Ontario

  • Click on this link for photos of this past weekend

  • The Chukars were able to win the first game, but lost the second. They had some awesome hitting in the first, but struggled in the second. Baumann was not happy, and ordered them off the field (when they were putting it to bed). This ended up being a "good" thing for us, as Landon was able to meet with all of his family at Pizza Hut. We had quite the crew, Mark and Carrie Dickson brought their four boys, Jaden, Devin, Dallin and Dax (this was the first time that Lando got to see little Dax who is only 2 months old) Grandpa and Grandma Dickson, Kacey Brooks, and Roger and Gwen (mom and dad) as usual. After dinner, Kacey and Jaden hung out with Landon at the dorms, got a tour of Ontario, and had a great time. Roger is heading back to Ontario on Wednesday (up AND back in one day) to watch the game with CBC. We are hoping for wins, because Landon just informed us that ONLY the top 4 teams go to the playoffs on the 18th-19th. The Bad news - TVCC is sitting in 5th place after this weekend. The Good News - We are only down 2 games from 1st place, with 4 games to go. Hope the boys can make the cut !

    Bad News Bears.....

How do we go from 8 and 0..............
    To 0 and 7................
Landon said last week, "The one thing about baseball, is that it is really streaky". How right he is.

He said his roommate Jon Keller (one of our BEST pitchers) might have a broken toe! I'm not sure what happened, as Landon's phone cut out during the call. This would NOT be good.

One bright spot - Landon went 2 for 2 today, with a double and a single.

Landon sent me a text about 11:30 pm, and said they were back in town, and he and the boys were "hitting" in the batting cages. I think they are night owls and never go to bed.........

We travel to Ontario early Saturday morning. We are thinking POSITIVE !

    Game Rescheduled

Hopefully if the rain lets up, they will play the makeup game today. We'll keep you posted.

    Game Day ! - RAINOUT !!

The Chukars were turned back at Baker City due to RAINOUT in Pendleton Oregon where they were to face the Blue Mtn. Timberwolves. Don't know when these games will be rescheduled.
