Landon reports to the Provo MTC on October 17th - 4 months away............ We are told we should get working on his passport tomorrow !

He is excited and nervous. He will of course, be learning Spanish !

    It's been a great ride, but all good things must come to an end, and Landon's "Excellent Adventure" is over. He will head home tomorrow, June 8, 2007 at noon. He has learned and experienced so much. College baseball was great, but more so, the friends he met along the way. These are some of the best young men you could ever associate with. It has been a pleasure ! While the season did not turn out the way they had hoped, THEY always did their best and put it all on the line EVERY GAME. These words below describe their character. They will go far......

    Landon may find himself going crazy this week, as he takes several tests and hopes to finalize everything (including all final tests) so that he can come home on Saturday for good........we'll see how it goes !

    On the road again ....


    With baseball over, and all of his class load on Tuesday and Thursday, the 4 day weekend looms large and boring for Landon. He'll head home again this morning (Friday). 11 hours on the road (down and back) and $40 in gas seems a small price to pay in order to be at home with family and friends. He says we'll see him by noon today !

    Good Times


    Landon and Mitch Phillips, his roommate from Spokane Washington had a great weekend at home. It went something like this.....Guitar Hero, Eat, Sleep, Play Catch, Eat, Sleep, Float down East Canyon Creek, Eat Sleep, Shop at the Mall, Eat, Sleep, Dunk ball on the Trampoline, Eat, Sleep, Visit D Ross, Eat, Sleep, Ping Pong Tournament, Eat, Sleep, Browning Outlet, Eat, Sleep....... Seriously they had a good time, and were sorry to go back to Ontario at 4pm on Monday afternoon. Only a couple more weeks..... and Landon is home for good. The adventure is almost over.

    With Landon's baseball being over, we have had quite an adjustment. Things looked brighter tonight though - another generation is starting up, and we couldn't be prouder. Check out Camryn - first time out on the field, and you would have thought she was "Queen" of T-ball.

    Landon and Mitch are headed home. At 9:30 pm they are in Rupert - They'll probably get here about midnight. We are looking forward to the visit. Landon said to warm up the spaghetti we had for dinner, cause' they'll be hungry !!

    No call THIS week....


    Landon had a great weekend at home, and is planning on coming home over Memorial Day also. We had expected receiving his call this Wednesday, but found out Sunday, that it hadn't been sent in yet !?!? Hopefully it was sent in today, so at the earliest, we are looking at June 6th. We will hold it until he gets home to open it all together, that is unless I can find a way to "steam" it open, j/k Landon !!

    Final TVCC Record

    Season 28-26
    League 14-14

    The Fat Lady Has Sung........


    The Chukars lost a heartbreaker (first game) to Spokane, thus ending their playoff hopes, and their season. Jon Keller, pitched a "gutsy" game with a broken toe, and we were tied 2-2 going into the 6th inning when he was replaced by Hobgood. The Sasquatch picked up another 3 runs, winning the game 5 to 2. The second game was anti-climactic, but the great thing about it was getting all the freshmen in the game for one last go. The boys headed home on the bus (wearing their uniforms/no shower). It will be a LOOOOONNNGG 7-8 hours of travel.

    Do or Die......


    The Chukars must sweep Spokane at Spokane on Saturday in order to be able to advance to the playoffs next week. It will be a tough go, but the team has played well on the road (remember CBC and Wenatchee last month?). They will be hard fought games, as the Sasquatches will want revenge from the last time we played. We will be there to cheer TVCC on. Roger and Gwen will drive to Boise tomorrow afternoon, and then fly out to Spokane at 9:30 pm. The boys will probably leave around noon tomorrow for the bus ride up. We are staying with the Phillips once again, and hopefully we'll be able to cook some of the boys breakfast early Saturday morning before the game. GO CHUKARS !!

    Chukars split with CBC

    It was good to see Landon again yesterday, and to see the Chukars win against CBC, final score of first game 6-0. Pitcher, Hobgood was only 4 singles away from a perfect game. We left for home, during the second game, when the Chuks were down 0-5......final score ended up 4-8. We are surely missing Jon Keller on the pitching rotation. We still stand in 5th place, but Walla Walla and Big Bend have not reported yesterday's scores yet (7am-Thurs).

    Practice was GREAT !

    Landon called tonight and said that yesterday was the BEST practice the team has ever had, and today's was just as good. It was a very HARD practice, but everyone had their attitudes in the right place, including the coaches. They are all optimistic about the games tomorrow and Saturday. I just got an email from Amy Phillips (Spokane, WA), Landon's roommate's mom. She made this comment, which I hadn't really thought about before.. "It's pretty wild that 5 teams can play 24 games, and only be separated by 2 games. I wonder what the odds of that happening are? Oh well, their fate should rest in their hands". Rog and I are heading up tomorrow to catch the double header. Keep your fingers crossed XX.

    Great Weekend at Ontario

  • The Chukars were able to win the first game, but lost the second. They had some awesome hitting in the first, but struggled in the second. Baumann was not happy, and ordered them off the field (when they were putting it to bed). This ended up being a "good" thing for us, as Landon was able to meet with all of his family at Pizza Hut. We had quite the crew, Mark and Carrie Dickson brought their four boys, Jaden, Devin, Dallin and Dax (this was the first time that Lando got to see little Dax who is only 2 months old) Grandpa and Grandma Dickson, Kacey Brooks, and Roger and Gwen (mom and dad) as usual. After dinner, Kacey and Jaden hung out with Landon at the dorms, got a tour of Ontario, and had a great time. Roger is heading back to Ontario on Wednesday (up AND back in one day) to watch the game with CBC. We are hoping for wins, because Landon just informed us that ONLY the top 4 teams go to the playoffs on the 18th-19th. The Bad news - TVCC is sitting in 5th place after this weekend. The Good News - We are only down 2 games from 1st place, with 4 games to go. Hope the boys can make the cut !

    Bad News Bears.....

    Landon said last week, "The one thing about baseball, is that it is really streaky". How right he is.

    He said his roommate Jon Keller (one of our BEST pitchers) might have a broken toe! I'm not sure what happened, as Landon's phone cut out during the call. This would NOT be good.

    One bright spot - Landon went 2 for 2 today, with a double and a single.

    Landon sent me a text about 11:30 pm, and said they were back in town, and he and the boys were "hitting" in the batting cages. I think they are night owls and never go to bed.........

    We travel to Ontario early Saturday morning. We are thinking POSITIVE !

    Chukars lose both games to Big Bend



    No good news to report from Saturday's games. The Chukars pitched well, but didn't have the hitting to go along with it. We are now tied for second place with CBC in the Eastern division. It was good though, to see Landon after the past two weeks. He took us and Grandpa and Grandma Rich to Brewsky's Broiler, where we had some great food for supper.



    Landon stayed and visited in our room later, and we talked more than we have in months! It is fun to just sit back and listen as he and Rog talk the "baseball lingo"......I learned that there is a lot of "etiquette" in baseball. Did you know:
    * Outfielders should never run across the infield
    * No one should ever play catch in the infield
    * No one should step on the foul lines
    * The catcher ALWAYS waits for the pitcher, when running out for introductions

    We'll miss Wednesday's game in Pendleton Oregon, against Blue Mountain....but will head back up next weekend.

    Heading to Oregon

    We will leave at 5am in the morning (Saturday) for Ontario. The Chukars will face off with Big Bend at noon. They split the games at their last meeting, in Moses Lake, Washington. Landon said they had a brutal practice on Thursday, and today's was about normal. Hope to be able to report some good news when we get back Sunday afternoon.

    TVCC loses both games to Walla Walla

    Haven't heard from Lando yet, it's 8:00 pm, and we are monitoring the NWAACC standings.............and there she is (DANG !) Lost BOTH games - we are now TIED for first place in the Eastern division with Walla Walla, - 12 wins each. WW needs to make up two games, as they have only played 16 total, and should be 18 at this point.

    Update - Landon finally called about 9pm. I guess Baumann was MAD ! (do you blame him?) They had BP and more..... after the game. Concerning Landon, he played the first 5 innings of the first game, and all of the second game. He went 1 for 2, with a ribbie double, YAHOO !! He finally broke out of his slump !! He was also hit by pitch, and had a few walks. He threw a runner out at third, and caught a pop-up at the plate. The boys need to get their heads in the game and turn this around!! After 8 wins in a row - 3 losses are a real bummer !

    Important games today....... aren't they all?


    As the Chukars continue in the second half of league play, they work hard at analyzing their opponents. A lot of time is spent in the baseball "classroom" as they review previous game tapes, discussing each of the batters and pitchers they will face. Walla Walla is in second place, and only two games behind TVCC in the Eastern division standings, so these games today could make some real differences in how the top two shake out. Hobgood and Keller will pitch today, and Landon said they should do really well against the WW lineup. Let's hope that hard work, determination, and a little bit of luck prevail today.

    Split with the Yaks


    Landon said the Chukars didn't play their best in Yakima, winning 5-4 in the first game, and losing 2-4 in the second. Considering everything, they were happy to come away with a split. Landon caught all of the first game, and the end of the second. He threw out two stealing second, and had some good blocks at the plate.

    Correction and Apology !


    Okay - Bill and Amy from Spokane......quit your laughing, and let me correct myself. Roger informed me tonight that they are NOT the Bigfoot(s) or Bigfeet (haha) - but the Sasquatches !! Sorry about that !!

    Another Sweep !


    Well I guess it was a couple of intense exciting games yesterday at Ontario. Final scores, 4-3 & 6-3. The Spokane Bigfoots (Bigfeet?) came to town in questionable weather - but the games were able to be played. The temperature was chilly, though the "tempers" proved to be HOT ! The first game was exceptionally intense, with the score at 0-0 going into the top of the 9th. Spokane up first, hit a 3 run bomb right off the bat, but the boys held them here. The Chukars were able to come back and tie it up, and in the last seconds were able to score in a close one at the plate for the win. The Chukar dugout emptied, as congratulations were offered. Landon said there were alot of close plays/calls, and the coaches from both sides took out their frustrations on the umps. Players were "involved", and alot of heckling was going on. In one particular incident, the batter got in the way as Landon threw down to second to catch a guy stealing. After an umpire conference, the batter AND the runner were called out, and Spokane proceeded to jeer with most cat-calls coming at Landon. It is interesting to note that no one tried to steal again ! Also, a play at the plate had Landon getting the OBVIOUS block, with the runner SAFE (huh?!) and all three Chukar coaches charged the plate to argue the call. Later in the 2nd game, Landon was able to stop another runner short of the plate (hope the guy doesn't have a broken sternum) - this time the ump was wearing his glasses :) The Chukars are now at the halfway point in league play, and are the leaders in the Eastern Division - Go Chukars !!

    HUGE wins on the road

    The Chukars went 4 for 4 in their last two games on the road this past week. The wins against Columbia Basin and Wenatchee were HUGE (Landon's words), and put the team in FIRST PLACE in the Eastern Division of the NWAACC. We had a great road trip touring the state of Washington, and watching the Chukars kick butt !! As soon as I can get pictures uploaded to my computer, I'll post some for viewing.

    Chukars split games with Big Bend

    Surprise Surprise - we are updating this from the Phillip's home in beautiful Spokane Washington. Yesterday's weather was great in Moses Lake, Washington, where the team lost a heart breaker first game 3-2. We were tied 2-2 going into the bottom of the 9th inning, when the bases were loaded, 2 outs, and the Vikings scored to end the game. In the second game the Vikings scored 5 runs in the first inning, and it wasn't until the 7th inning that the Chukars were able to come back to tie it up and pull ahead. The game ended Treasure Valley 10, Big Bend 6. Happy Easter to all of you !!

    TVCC sweeps BMCC


    The Timberwolves from Blue Mountain Community College in Pendleton Oregon, lost both games to the Chukars on Wednesday. The first game ended up with a score of 10-5.
    The second, 5-0, where Landon's teammate Jon Keller tossed a complete game, 3-hit shutout. The next three games are all on the road in Washington state. Roger and Gwen are taking an extended road trip to follow the team, hoping to get in some sightseeing on the days off. We'll post highlights when we return, meanwhile, check out the scores on the sidebar to the left. Road trip info as follows:

    Chukars split games with Yaks


    First game was tied 1 to 1 until late in the game when the Yaks picked up 5 runs. Final score TVCC 1 ~ Yaks 6. In the second game, the Chukars came out on top ~ 8 to 4. Landon played a great defensive game with his "new" glove that he absolutely LOVES.....and if his bat would just get hot, then things would be absolutely perfect ! Judy Rosekelley and daughter Rachel were in Boise for volleyball today, and were able to come up later in the evening to see the field and dorms, meet some of Landon's roommates, and then they all went out for pizza. Roger and Landon are going to catch a late movie tonight, then Rog will stay overnight in Landon's dorm and head home tomorrow.

    League Games Start Up



    The Chukars split the double header yesterday with the Walla Walla Warriors. The boys had 12 hits in the first game, and 11 in the second. Hobgood pitched the 1st game, and took the loss, and Jonny "K" pitched a great second game. Landon caught innings 7-8-9 of the first game, and all innings of the second game. He went 1 for 4, with a single that brought in 2 RBI's. It was his "favorite" hit - straight over third. He was also able to get a guy out at third, had no passed balls, and felt he had a really good game. Landon called us at 9:30 MST, and they were just leaving Walla Walla after eating at a great "all you can eat" pizza place. It's a 4-5 hour bus ride home, so they had a late night.

    Games to Catch !

    Some of you have expressed an interest in getting to some of Landon's games. While many of them are FAR FAR away, there are a few that are in Ontario on a weekend.

    We stay at the Super 8 motel (541-889-8282) which gives a 10% discount if you tell them you are supporting the TVCC baseball team.

    For Saturday games, we get up EARLY and leave Morgan by 6 am. It's only a 5 1/2 hour drive, even stopping for breakfast at McDonalds in Rupert. We'll then stay Saturday night, and drive back on Sunday. If you have afternoon church - you won't even have to miss it :)

    Road Trip !



    Tomorrow the Chukars will head 380 miles West to Oregon City, where they will face the Cougars from Clackamas Community College in a double header on Friday. Saturday they will continue 40 miles South to Albany, where they will meet up with the Linn Benton Roadrunners. After traveling home, and a day of rest on Sunday, they will compete against CSI in Twin Falls on Monday the 26th. We'll give a report as soon as we get home.

    It's all about the NUMBERS !

    70 hours of togetherness with a 3 year old ~
    11 hours on the road ~
    2:30 am Monday ~ We're home !
    # of times we groaned, sighed, and gritted our teeth ? ...... a few.....
    # of times we smiled, laughed, and were told we were "Best Friends"? .... too many to count :)
    The Chukars played great, and we enjoyed the games as usual. Camryn was the cutie pie of the stadium, and everyone loved her. Landon was glad to see her, and got a kick out of her cheering him on quite LOUDLY at times. There is an announcer that really makes a BIG deal over the players as they come up to bat, whenever she heard Cam Edman's name announced, Camryn would say, "That's MY name", and also when Landon's name was announced, she would scream out "Landon Lee - Landon Lee", over and over. We had to tell her to quite down sometimes. Once when Mitch Phillips was on deck, we were standing near the dugout. I whispered in Camryn's ear, "That is Landon's friend, Mitch". Well, she proceeded to shout out - "Hi MITCH !" for all to hear. It sure took him by surprise !! Now that we are home and it's over we can smile.....but it will be a long time before we run the numbers of this past weekend again !!

    TVCC vs CSI @ Ontario


    Today the Chukars split the double header with the screamin' golden eagles from the College of Southern Idaho. TVCC won the first game 5 to 4, and lost the second 7 to 1. Landon got a double, that produced the only ribbie in the second game. Rog was able to travel to Ontario and watch the games between "work" days at the Kimberly, Idaho Wonder Bread Depot.

    Gentry Ford Tourney


    The Chukars had a great weekend playing against the Miles City Pioneers and Southwestern Oregon Lakers. They came up 2nd overall, and Landon said the coaches had positive comments for the team, and were encouraged on the improvement from last week. They played two games each day, and Landon caught one game each day, and Jose' the other. Landon seems to always have great defensive games, and was able to throw players out at first, second, third, and also blocked the plate at home. He was pretty sore and tired after the weekend (knees and elbow). When they aren't playing in the game, he and Jose' are kept pretty busy in the bullpens. The Chukars are kept very busy when hosting these tournaments, and are prepping the field from early early morning, till it's time to "put the field to bed".
    It's a bit different from high school ball, in that there is NO talking to mom and dad through the fence at the ballfield. The best we can do it try to "catch" his eye and give him a thumbs up once in awhile. Landon is always very appreciative of our support, and it was great to have Grandpa and Grandma Dickson and Grandma LuAnn Rich there to cheer him on ! This is a great time in HIS life, and we are also enjoying EVERY minute.

    These guys have always got to be doing something !! Oh well, thank goodness hair grows back !

    Directions to TVCC ball field

    Heading west from Boise on I-84 – it’s about 50 miles to the Idaho/Oregon border.

    Right after you cross over the Snake River (state line) you will be in Ontario !

    Take Exit 376A, (to the right) which will loop you AROUND a clover leaf.

    Turn right onto Idaho Avenue, and cross back over the freeway you just exited.

    Stay on this road. You will go UNDER the railroad tracks. Disregard any signs to TVCC – they will just confuse you ! These instructions will get you there quicker and easier.

    Turn LEFT on SW 4th STREET (Red brick building/black sign/neon green lettering/Northwestern Bank)

    Keep going straight for a few blocks, and you will run right into the baseball field.

    An Epiphany !


    So.... I'm sitting here in the Chukar stands, about a mile from the Oregon/Idaho stateline, staring at the outfield fence, looking at all of the Chukar sponsors........OreIda....hmmm.....that's nice of that "hash brown" company to support our team. Wait a minute - Ore Ida ? Oregon? Idaho? Ah Hah !! I get it now !! :)

    Chase Dixon from Montpelier Idaho has moved into the dorm with Landon, Mitch and Jon. Also, Jose' Garcia, who lives in Ontario spends a lot of time with the boys. Landon has met so many, who will be friends for life !
